Gótico

The neighborhood
Discover Gotico’s stunning graffiti art while wandering through the old town and the famous Ramblas. It will never get boring in this neighborhood…The Gothic quarter got its name from the medieval times when the Romans conquered this area. It is THE downtown city center stretching from Plaza Catalunya all the way down to the harbour.
The most famous street of Barcelona “Las Ramblas” is located in Gótico as well. There is lots to discover on this street: From the many artists, the Boqueria market, the Cathedral to wonderful Plaza Real. Don’t miss the colorful Boqueria market, they have amazing fresh fruit juices and yummy food. Plaza Reial is one of the most beautiful plazas and has this magical atmosphere at any time of the day. There are a million bars and restaurants and something is always going on in this neighborhood!
It is the most touristic area as well so you will meet tourists at all times of the day wandering around and getting lost in El Gótico. The narrow winding streets are famous for it and you can pretty easily get lost, even after many years of living in Barcelona. Most of the apartments are rather small and as the buildings in Gótico are usually quite old it is hard to find renovated apartments. This neighborhood is not residential or quiet at all, if you want to live in the middle of the action, this is definitely the place to be!
Shopping is also great in the Gothic Quarter, you can basically find all the big popular brands on Calle Portal de L’Angel and if you are looking for smaller unique shops you should check out Calle Avinyo. You can reach all places by foot, the Gótico is perfect for an afternoon stroll. Make sure to have your camera with you as there is incredible Graffiti art you might like to capture. You should be aware of pickpockets in this barrio, as its so crowded there are many thieves around this area trying their luck.
