The neighborhood

Vamos a la playa!! Barceloneta is the smallest neighborhood located right at the beach! Feel the beach vibes with great seafood and live music… Fishermen were the first to settle in this neighborhood during the 18th century. Nowadays you can still feel the charming fishermen village character this area has.

This neighborhood is for all the ones that dream of living right at the beach! Wouldn’t you like to wake up to the sea view? There are many fabulous restaurants and bars everywhere in Barceloneta. You can find one of the best Burgers right at the beach in trendy places such as “Maka Maka” or “Bacoa”. Or if you feel like having a cocktail with great music and your feet in the sand you have to check out the many beach huts all along the beach called “Chiringuitos”. On Sundays during summer you shouldnt miss the “Wet Deck” Pool Party in the famous W Hotel. Barcelona’s high society get together and the motto is “to see and be seen”.

It is no surprise that it is Barceloneta where you will find the best seafood available. Its a perfect plan to go to the beachfront for Paella and Sangria on a Sunday at lunch time. For the ones interested in culture you can check out the Catalunya History museum, which also has stunning views from the rooftop terrace.

If you are looking for shopping you can find all kinds of shops in the Mare Magnum shopping center, located right at the harbour and opened on Sundays as well. From Barceloneta you can also take a cable car crossing the ocean all the way up to Montjuic, its definitely recommendable and has breathtaking views! Barceloneta is not only popular in summer. Even in winter you can enjoy the beach view, cuddling up in a blanket, having a coffee and watching the surfers riding the waves.

Buildings in this neighborhood tend to be older, and sometimes run down, and flats smaller than average. But if you are a beach lover this is a small price to pay. Remember that its not a quiet neighborhood as its crowded with tourists just about all years around. There is always something to do in this vibrant and international barrio!
