What to do on Valentine’s Day in Barcelona
As all of you know… tomorrow on February 14th is Valentine’s Day. It is a romantic date to celebrate LOVE together with your partner. But even if you don’t have a partner at the moment, it’s also great to celebrate friendship and enjoy the night with your single friends.
How did Valentine’s day begin?
The origin of Valentine’s Day is not known exactly. There are lots of different historical data and legends. One version refers to Valentine of Rome, a priest in Ancient Rome who professed the Christian faith in the third century A.D. According to legends, Emperor Claudius II had forbidden engagement and marriage among young people, since single people without families were better soldiers. Challenging the prohibition of the authorities, Valentine married young couples who were in love according to the Christian rite. For this reason, he was arrested and subsequently executed on February 14, AD 270, and that is why Valentine’s Day is celebrated as the day of lovers every year on that date.
