Sant Jordi: A day with many activities
Every April 23rd, Sant Jordi Day is celebrated in Barcelona! It is the combination of roses, books and lovers. The International Book Day is a particularly romantic day in Catalonia. It is when the Catalans celebrate their patron, Sant Jordi, going out into the street to celebrate this fabulous tradition.
On this day couples exchange gifts: men receive
a book and women get roses. Nowadays it’s an exchange of gifts that is not only
between couples, but also between friends, families and co-workers. Many people
wonder where to go on this special day. In this blog post we will give you some
ideas.
Opportunity to visit Sagrada Familia and Casa Museo de Gaudí
During the Day of Sant Jordi, the Sagrada Familia and the Gaudí House Museum will offer free access, and without prior reservation, to all Jordis, Jorges, Jordines and Georginas. (from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.) It is a way to commemorate the feast of the city and Catalonia, honoring those who celebrate their saint on such a special date. In addition, as is being done in recent years, visitors visiting the Temple on the 23rd will be able to see the statue of Sant Jordi, by Josep Maria Subirachs, surrounded by red roses, located on the balcony of Juvé.
Book signing
Today the most sold books will be those of the authors like Javier Castillo, Blue Jeans, Carmen Sereno, Juan José Millás or María Dueñas. In addition, many writers will be on the street to sign their books. Don’t miss this special occasion!
