The annual beer festival in Barcelona! Oktoberfest 2018
Oktoberfest is known as the most famous beer festival in the world. It all started more than 200 years ago organizing the wedding celebration of Prince Ludwig I of Bavaria with Princess Theresa of Saxony-Hildburghausen. After the success of the party, the following year another one was organized. With the passage of time, every year, the biggest beer festival in the world takes place in Munich, Germany.
Taking Bavaria as an example, every year different cities in Spain and throughout the world celebrate the traditional beer festival, the “Oktoberfest”. In Barcelona it will be from October 4th to 14th 2018. The location is at Plaza Universo de la Fira Montjuïc Barcelona. Its right next to Plaza España, very easy to reach.
Many tourists and inhabitants of Catalonia celebrate this date on the streets and take advantage of drinking the best beers and have fun for a few days with their friends. It is a popular party organized in the German style and the admission is free! The party will be on for 11 days! So you do not have any excuses to miss it. There will be a main tent with more than 5,000 m2 of space, where many people enter and it is a possibility to meet many people!
Although it is a party with high alcohol consumption, the Oktoberfest is also designed for the whole family (especially in the morning and until mid-afternoon). For children, there will be a Play Area of more than 3,000 m2. This large children’s space, will also have attractions for adults, and a wide variety of activities. Also, there is a merchandising area where you can buy T-shirts and even hats from the Oktoberfest.
We recommend you to reserve the tables in advance, so that you already have a place with your group of friends, but remember that it is free! Last year, the big beer jug (1 litre) cost € 9 for the blonde and € 10 for the toast. There is an option to take jugs of half a litre (€ 5) and even bottles (€ 3.5), this year the prices will be similar or only a little higher.
There will be live music and dj’s that will accompany the party. But there are not only drinks! You will be able to taste different typical dishes from southern Germany: pork knuckle, roast chicken with potatoes, German sausages, a variety of salads, brezels and other typical dishes.
